The project for a new terminal for public transport located next to the urban railway station, make this area a strategic space for the city of Lucca. The new space is configured as a large sloping “piazza”, made of different planes modelling the terrain to discover the ancient traces of the Nottolini aqueduct. A series of trees complete this urban landscape, becoming a visual filter between the railway and the city, and acting as an acoustic barrier. Below the “piazza” there is a large parking. An existing storage building is maintained as a historical feature and dedicated to a public information centre. A few strong and simple gestures with a strong impact on the renovation and re-activation of the area from a social point of view, on the improvement of environmental characteristics, on the image of the city that becomes able to offer to the traveler a space to socialise, to relax, or just to walk through or wait.
